Is it possible to remove facial scars with a laser? What is laser scar resurfacing? How is the scar removal procedure carried out?

The consequences of injuries, surgical interventions, acne leave behind ugly, rough skin growths – scars. Sometimes they cause pain and itching, more often they serve as an unpleasant reminder. In open areas of the body, especially on the face, scars distort the appearance, leading to a feeling of dissatisfaction with their appearance and experiences.
Is it worthwhile to carry out laser removal of scars and scars, and how it happens, we will tell below.
Types of scars
Not all types of scars lend themselves to laser scar correction. This type of impact on superficial changes is most suitable:
✅ acne scars (post-acne)
✅ surgical scars
✅ trauma scars
✅ old burns
A scar is the formation of connective tissue at the site of skin lesions. During the removal of scars with a laser, the top layer of the skin is removed, in the place of which a new, smoother and more beautiful skin grows. This is facilitated by the uniform enhanced regeneration caused by the thermal effect of the laser beams.
Scar Removal Methods
There are several ways to deal with old scars, including plastic surgery. They are used if the scars are very large and penetrate deep into the dermis.
Laser removal of scars in Kiev on the basis of our medical center does not require surgical intervention. We use ablative (superficial) and non-ablative (deep) effects on the skin. The hardware method of removing scars can be supplemented with injection procedures to achieve the best effect.
In the process of laser scar removal, the doctor carefully selects the laser parameters for each patient. The impact is carried out only on the damaged area, leaving the adjacent areas of healthy skin intact.
The laser beam, penetrating deep into the dermis, forms “micropillars” there with an increased temperature. As a result, dermal cells begin to actively divide at the sites of exposure, restoring the surface; there is an increased production of collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid.
Scar removal is not instantaneous. One session lasts 15-30 minutes, the number of sessions is determined by the attending physician.
Usually 3-4 sessions are needed
The total cost of treatment includes the price of laser resurfacing of scars at each session, drugs for anesthesia and healing, medical consultations before and after procedures.

How to prepare for your scar removal procedure
Before laser scar removal procedures, you will be examined by a doctor, will study your history, and will tell you in detail about all the nuances of treatment.
In short, the process looks like this:
- The doctor marks the affected area with a marker or pen and treats it with anesthetic.
- For planned exposure to the face, wear protective goggles.
The specialist acts with a laser on the damaged area with precise movements.
- You may feel warmth, slight tingling sensation.
- After the completion of the procedure, there will be noticeable redness at the site of the scar, and swelling may appear, like with a sunburn. The doctor will apply a medicated ointment to the area.
- The procedure is repeated at intervals of 4-6 weeks. The number of sessions is prescribed by a specialist, based on the effectiveness and the expected result.
To prepare for treatment, refrain from cosmetic procedures: epilation, peeling, collagen injections.
Avoid direct sunlight before and after treatment. Do not use laser therapy on tanned skin.
Give up smoking, it impairs the regenerative properties of the skin.
Do not take aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), ibuprofen, naproxen, or the like; cut out herbal supplements like garlic or ginkgo biloba. They thin the blood and increase the risk of bleeding.
