What is post acne?
To answer this question, first a few words about acne.
Acne or acne is the appearance on the surface of the skin of inflammatory elements in the form of reddish bumps, blackheads and skin imperfections. If they do not heal well, are injured, or are constantly squeezed out, scar-like changes occur on the skin. Strictly speaking, these skin defects are called “post-acne”.
What Causes Post-Acne?
There are a number of factors that can cause acne to progress to acne. The main ones can be distinguished:
- Severity of acne with deep skin lesions
- It is a severe acne disease that most often turns into a cicatricial form of post-acne.
- The duration of the inflammatory process in the skin
- In 95% of cases, acne that lasts more than a year leads to post-acne
- The presence of acne in the family
- If one of the relatives had post-acne, then the risk of the onset of the disease increases significantly.
- Trauma and improper treatment
- If acne is squeezed out too often and thereby periodically injure the inflammatory elements of acne, as well as with improper treatment, the disease may worsen.
Post-acne appears as rectangular, chipped, or rounded scars.
In addition to scarring, post-acne can manifest itself as hyperpigmentation (changes in color) and changes in the relief of the facial skin (they are also called hypertrophic or raised scars).
How is acne treated?
At Esteva Clinic, we use the most effective and modern methods for post-acne treatment:
- Fractional skin resurfacing with CO2 laser
- Microneedle (or it is also called fractional) radio wave method.
Laser skin resurfacing
Fractional CO2 laser therapy is the most effective acne scar treatment available today. The technique gives excellent results that are visible from the first session. The new “fractional” technology allows you to act only on the necessary areas of the skin, leaving intact skin intact. This ensures fast healing and safety of the procedure for most skin types.
The principle of operation of a fractional CO2 laser is based on the fact that when it works, it makes microscopic holes in the skin (the so-called “columns”). This process leads to the production of new healthy collagen, which smooths out acne scars. The improvement in skin condition after acne can be seen as early as one week after the CO2 fractional laser treatment. The improvement in acne scarring will continue for up to six months after the initial treatment.
CO2 lasers are ideal for treating acne scarring.
The duration of laser acne treatment is 30-60 minutes.
A local anesthetic is applied to the skin to minimize discomfort.
In most cases, 2-3 procedures are required to obtain the maximum result.
At Esteva Clinic, we use a CO2 laser from the American brand Adonyss CarbonFrax.
The peculiarity of this device is its mild action, which allows to shorten the duration of the rehabilitation period, as well as a variety of modes and attachments, which allows you to more individually select the parameters of laser skin resurfacing.
Adonyss CarbonFrax is approved by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)
Microneedle radio wave method
This is also a relatively new technology that uses microneedles to deliver RF energy into the deeper layers of the dermis. In addition, the fractional or microneedle radio wave technique is used to treat a variety of dermatological conditions, including wrinkles, atrophic and hypertrophic scars.
The use of this method is justified from the point of view of evidence-based medicine. There have been several studies evaluating the effectiveness of the microneedle radio wave method in treating acne, and all of them have shown that this method is safe and effective in the treatment of post-acne.
The rehabilitation period (time of swelling and slight redness of the skin) after the procedure of the microneedle radio wave method can last several days.
Local anesthesia can be used on request.
The microneedle radio wave method is performed using disposable needles (one set is designed for one patient), which guarantees your safety.
From our video, you can see how the procedure goes
The duration of the course of post-acne treatment is from 3 to 4 procedures with an interval of 2-3 weeks.
The rehabilitation period (time of swelling and slight redness on the skin) after a post-acne treatment session can last for several days.
Local anesthesia is possible during the procedure if desired.
At Esteva Clinic for the microneedle radio wave method of post-acne treatment, we use the Israeli-made Body Shape III apparatus. Its distinguishing feature is the Computerized Temperature Control System (CSCS), which is capable of scanning and checking every radio wave pulse. This solution guarantees the maximum efficiency of the technique.
Temperature sensors built into the applicators provide additional efficiency and safety of the sessions.
For the treatment of post-acne, in addition to the microneedle radio wave method, we also use other methods in a complex, such as mesotherapy, plasma lifting and peeling.
